A StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children (and adults!) to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages from a children's picture book are attached to wooden pedestals installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you'll be directed to the next page in the story.
The Storywalk is located on the trail next to the Wurtsboro Fire Department in Wurtsboro, NY. It is free and open to the public year-round during daylight hours. Look for the first pedestal near the fire station — there's also a guestbook where you can sign in and share your thoughts!
Yes! The Friends of the Mamakating Library plan to change the story seasonally. Check back often to read new stories while you explore the trail. Follow us on social media to find out what's currently on display.
If you notice an issue with our Storywalk pages or pedestals, please let the library know as soon as possible at (845) 888-8004 so we can fix it and the community can continue to enjoy the stories.
The Storywalk was created through community collaboration:
This program is funded in part by the County of Sullivan and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services through the Sullivan County Youth Bureau.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
